A smart solution for keeping energy consumption as low as possible and thus increasing the range of the car is to decouple the drivetrain from the axle. If the car is in "sailing mode", this disconnect function reduces the resistance generated by the wheels and the car can glide along for longer. As soon as the driver accelerates again, the connection between the axle and drivetrain is re-established in a fraction of a second.
The intelligent CAN electronics control a motor that drives a worm gear connected to an output shaft. This activates an absolute sensor system on the actuator side, which precisely triggers the uncoupling and recoupling of the drive train to the axle.
Our decoupling actuator is not only used in electric cars and hybrid vehicles - it can also demonstrate its advantages in cars with conventional combustion engines. This is because disconnecting the axle not only ensures that fuel can be saved: emissions can also be kept measurably lower.
The intelligent decoupling actuator is just one of many solutions with which KÜSTER makes automobiles even more efficient and future-proof. For over 100 years, we have stood for ideas and developments at the cutting edge - made in Germany.
